TERMS OF SERVICE
LAST UPDATED: OCTOBER 9, 2026
Gamerater is a free site where people vote on which of two video games is better, and those votes build a community ranking. This page explains the rules for using it and what happens to your information.
Terms of Service
By using Gamerater, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Who can use Gamerater
Gamerater is for people 13 and older. By creating an account, you confirm that you're at least 13.
Vote fairly
The rankings only mean something if the votes are real. So please don't:
- use bots, scripts or automated tools to vote;
- create multiple accounts or use other tricks to vote more than the site allows;
- organize or pay people to push a game up or down;
- try to break, overload or get around the site's security or limits.
If we see votes that look like cheating, we may remove them, limit voting, or suspend or delete the accounts involved, with or without notice.
Accounts
You can vote as a guest or create an account. You're responsible for keeping your login details safe. From your account page you can change your password at any time, change your username once every 90 days, and delete your account at any time (see Privacy Policy).
Rankings are opinions
Rankings, win percentages and vote counts reflect what Gamerater voters picked. They're community opinions, not facts or professional reviews. We may change how rankings are calculated, reset votes, or fix errors at any time.
Game information and images
Game details, cover art and screenshots come from IGDB. Game names, covers, screenshots and trademarks belong to their respective owners. Gamerater isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any game publisher or developer. If you own content shown here and want it removed, email contact@gamerater.io.
Links to other sites
Gamerater links to other websites, like IGDB, game stores (such as Steam), Discord and Twitch. We aren't responsible for their content or how they handle your information.
The site is provided "as is"
We work hard to keep Gamerater running, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free or unchanged. To the fullest extent the law allows, Gamerater isn't liable for any loss or damage from using (or not being able to use) the site.
Changes to these terms
We may update this page as the site grows. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date at the top. If you keep using Gamerater after a change, that means you accept the new version.
Privacy Policy
We collect as little as we can, and we never sell your personal information.
What we collect
- Your votes. Which game you picked in each matchup (and which ones you skipped), plus your vote count and daily streak.
- An anonymous guest account. When you first vote, we create an anonymous account so your votes can be counted and carried over if you sign up later. It isn't linked to your name or email.
- Your email address, if you create an account. It's used to log you in and for messages about your account. We won't send you marketing emails unless you ask for them.
- A scrambled version of your IP address. We turn your IP address into a one-way code (a "hash") and store only that code, to spot cheating like one person voting from many accounts. We don't store your actual IP address with your votes.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies only to keep you logged in (including as a guest). Your browser also remembers small settings, like whether sound is on. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Who helps us run the site
We use a few trusted services to run Gamerater. They only process data to provide their service to us:
- Supabase stores our database and handles logins.
- Vercel hosts the website. Like any web host, it may keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability.
- Cloudflare runs our domain and an invisible bot check (Turnstile) when you first visit and when you log in. It looks at basic browser and connection details to tell people from bots. See Cloudflare's Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
- Discord, Twitch and Google handle sign-in if you choose one of them. We receive your email address, display name and profile picture from them, never your password.
- IGDB (owned by Twitch) provides game information. Your data isn't sent to IGDB.
If we add new services, such as ads or analytics, we'll update this policy before turning them on.
Public information
Rankings, vote totals and win percentages are public, but they never show who voted for what, unless you choose to share one of your own picks. A shared pick gets its own private link that shows your username and that one vote. If you create an account, your username, profile picture (from Discord, Twitch or Google, if you signed in with one), join date and how many votes you've cast appear on the public Members page. Your email address is never shown.
How long we keep it
We keep your votes and account for as long as your account exists, so your history and streaks stay accurate. Guest accounts that haven't been used in a long time may be removed.
Your choices
- Delete your data: delete your account and vote history at any time from your account page, or email contact@gamerater.io and we'll do it for you. Your past votes have already been counted in the rankings, so the effect they had on the rankings stays, but they're no longer linked to you.
- Get a copy or fix something: email us and we'll help.
Children
Gamerater isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has created an account, let us know and we'll look into it.
