PATCH NOTES
Gamerater gets patches, just like a game. Here's everything new, newest first. You're on version 1.3. Found a bug or missing your GOAT? Tell us on the Discord.
Version 1.3October 11, 2026
The arena
- Haven't played a game? Tap the eye on its info page to hide it, or pick Both if you haven't played either. Hidden games stop showing up in your matchups.
- Hide just one game and a new opponent takes its place, so you can still vote on the other one.
- You can hide up to 50 games. Once you hit 50, the newest one replaces the oldest. See them all on your account page.
- Voting is faster: the result comes in quicker, and the next matchup follows right after.
- Notes now show inside the "Which game is better?" box, and as a pill at the top on phones.
- "You moved the needle!" pops up when your vote moves a game in the top 10.
- Undo now also closes the "Haven't played" prompt.
Monday Matchup
- Every Monday, members get a featured matchup: a big new release against a fan favorite.
- It's an exhibition, just for fun. It counts toward your streak and badges, but doesn't change the rankings.
Streaks
- A reminder shows when your streak is about to end.
- Streak saver: miss a day and your streak is saved automatically, once a week. ๐
Rankings
- Games are now ranked by Score (0 to 100). It's a game's win rate, made fair for how many votes it has, so a lucky new game can't jump to #1.
- Each game shows its Score along with its wins and losses.
- Overwatch 2 is back under its proper name.
Members and your account
- Your Rank among members now shows in the bar at the bottom.
- The Members list keeps loading more members as you scroll down.
- Your Spot: your rank stays at the bottom of the Members page as you scroll, with how many votes it takes to pass the next person.
- Taste match: see how often you and another member agree, once you've both voted on at least 5 of the same matchups.
- Weekly recap on your account page: your votes, how your rank moved, and your boldest pick.
Achievements
- 8 new badges, for 21 in all, including one secret. Any you'd already earned were added automatically.
- The About page shows the easiest ones, and "View all achievements" opens the full list.
Around the site
- New Buy Now button on every game: one tap takes you straight to it on Amazon.
- New Forums page. The forums are coming soon, and the Discord is open in the meantime.
- The version number in the footer, which brings you here.
- Links in text are underlined so they're easier to spot.
- On phones, the Back button now closes pop-ups instead of leaving the page.
- Proofreading fixes all over the site (thanks, Dad!).
Version 1.2October 10, 2026
We found a sneaky bug that kept some legends off the site. Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts are in, plus Mega Man 2, Phoenix Wright, Metroid, Punch-Out!!, Animal Crossing, The Stanley Parable, and more. Every newly added classic gets a 3-day spotlight to catch up on votes.
Smarter search
- ff7, spiderman, pokemon, botw, gta 5, and small typos all work now.
- Results pop up over the page instead of shoving it down.
Phones and polish
- Cleaner phone layout: more icons, less text.
- Faster page loads.
- Works better sideways too.
- Password show/hide button.
- Keyboard shortcuts on computers (โ โ or A/D to vote).
New pages
- FAQ: every question answered.
- About: meet the team (hi Justin!).
- Support Us: help keep Gamerater running.
Fixes and tweaks
- Votes Today now resets at midnight ET.
- New slogan: Crowning the greatest game of all time.
- Lots of small bugs squashed.
Now get voting. The crown won't decide itself.
Version 1.1October 10, 2026
The first ever Gamerater patch, the day after launch. Grab a snack.
New features
- Favorite Games: pick your top 10 of all time, drag them into order, and show them on your profile.
- Member profiles: tap anyone on Members to see their stats, badges, Top Votes, and Favorite Games.
- Achievements: earn badges as you vote, show them by your name, and pick their order. Once you earn one, it's yours for good.
- Profile pictures: use Discord, Twitch, or Google, or upload your own.
- Undo: changed your mind? Undo your last vote (or press Z).
- Save for later: haven't played one of the games? Save the matchup and vote later (members).
- Share your picks: share any vote with a link that shows who agrees with you.
- Hot Takes: your boldest picks against the rankings, right on your account page.
- Rank movement: arrows on Rankings show who climbed or dropped since yesterday.
- NEW tags: fresh releases are marked so you can spot them.
Better matchups
- Famous games show up more, so you know what you're picking.
- Brand-new visitors get two famous games the moment the page opens.
- No more seeing the same pair or the same game over and over.
- Fewer same-series matchups (no Mario vs Mario all day).
- Keep skipping a game? We'll show it to you less.
- New releases come in automatically and get a boost so they can climb fast.
Fixes and tweaks
- Voted as a guest, then logged in? Your votes and streak now come with you.
- Rankings tie-breaker: when two games have the same votes, the one people pick more often goes higher.
