The two oldest names in shooters both came back in the modern era, but they went in very different directions. Wolfenstein in 2009 gave the series an open hub city to explore between missions, and the Veil, a strange power that let you slip into another world. It got a mixed reception, but plenty of players still love it. Doom in 2016 threw out the slow, careful shooter playbook and said: keep moving. Fast fights, glory kills, and a heavy metal soundtrack that became part of the game's identity.
The case for Doom: it feels amazing to play and it's one of the most praised shooters of its decade. The case for Wolfenstein: it's weirder and more ambitious, and the setting is something you don't see every day.
Right now the community has Doom ahead of Wolfenstein. The ranks above are live, so they move with every vote.
